Socrates named as finalist in Lyfebulb / Novo Nordisk Innovation Award

The top 10 finalists for the Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Award have been announced today. The Award spotlights outstanding patient entrepreneurs' innovative efforts and ideas to better manage diabetes via consumer products, medical devices, or healthcare information technology. The 10 finalists have been narrowed down from more than 50 applications from 15 countries around the world, by the Lyfebulb founders and senior device researchers from Novo Nordisk A/S. The finalists will all attend the Innovation Summit December 6-7, 2016 hosted by Novo Nordisk in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Summit provides an opportunity for visibility and recognition in this highly competitive arena as well as professional discussion and inspiration for developing ideas further. The winner will be announced on December 7, 2016.

Socrates Health Solutions which is developing the Socrates CompanionTM, a pain-free, accurate and affordable noninvasive blood glucose monitoring device, announces the appointment of Douglas Sutherland to its Board of Directors. An active investor in diabetes-related start-up companies, Sutherland has held senior leadership positions at high-profile global companies and is currently serving as the Non-executive Chairman of IWG plc (formerly Regus plc), the world's largest provider of workspaces. Previously, Sutherland was the chief financial officer of Skype during its acquisition by Ebay, was a partner at Arthur Andersen with global management responsibilities, was the chief financial officer of SecureWave during its acquisition by Patchlink, was a director of Median Kliniken GmbH, Germany's largest private sector chain of health rehabilitation clinics, during its recent sale to Waterline Private Equity Investments BV, and was the founding Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is the fourth largest in the United States and boasts the sixth highest concentration of high-tech workers and 18 Fortune 500 headquarters. Socrates Names Tommy Thompson, former Secretary of Health and Human Services and former Governor of Wisconsin , to Board of Directors

Socrates Health Solutions, Inc., which is developing the Socrates Companion, a pain-free, accurate and affordable noninvasive blood glucose monitoring device, announces the appointment of Tommy G. Thompson to its Board of Directors. Following four terms as governor of Wisconsin, and as the U.S. Secretary of HHS under former President George W. Bush, Thompson gained national recognition for his leadership on major initiatives including U.S. preparedness for a bioterrorism attack, increased funding for the National Institutes of Health, expanded health insurance coverage to lower-income Americans, and attention to health problems such as obesity and diabetes.

Dallas Entrepreneur Seeks Funding for Glucose Monitor

Back in September, D Healthcare Daily brought you the story of Scott Smith, a healthcare entrepreneur who risked everything, quitting his job and throwing his efforts behind Companion, a noninvasive glucose monitor. His mission and company name - Socrates Health Solutions - were inspired by Smith's father, a diabetic linguistics professor and philosophy buff who was fond of quoting Socrates and what is known as the Socratic paradox: "I know one thing: that I know nothing."
